Commodities involved: the music industry

40 years later that song has made a lot of money. It’s not just about money, it’s an anthem that’s valued by people for other reasons. People have their own reasons for identifying with it. Originally bought  on black vinyl but now downloaded. Is that less wasteful? A download doesn’t increase in economic value but a vinyl does.

The Coffee Shop

Commodities involved: coffee

This is the public buying their daily coffee hit in a shop on the high street in one of the big brand shops. It’s so brainless but many people/consumers find it essential. I already boycott Starbucks… I should add others (Costa, Nero, Pret etc.) Imagine all the money you could save (& what you could do with that money!) if you didn’t have this coffee habit? £2.50 x 240 = £600!!

Commodities involved: weeds (of a particular kind… highly valued)

It’s a sale between a grower and a dealer. A nice example of ‘informal’/illegal trade. I began to think more about how transactions/trade is sanctioned as legal or criminalised.

Commodities involved: the animals and the hunters and the weapons

Some evil hunters are capturing animals to put into a zoo to make money from people who visit and look at animals in captivity. They are using tranquilizers. The animals decide to fight back and build a human zoo and intercept the hunters, rescue the animals and put the hunters in the zoo. Hunting is wrong. Not all zoos are good. Some have breeding programmes and do conservation work, but some […]

I got a lego set (again)

Commodities involved: Lego. Greek class.

I go to Greek class every week and get pocket money for it. I always buy Lego with my pocket money. The shop keeper profits from me buying the Lego. But I profit because I get to spend time with my Grandfatehr. It happens every week.
