Commodities involved: the standardisation of glassware (in laboratories)
Scientists are making the transition to standardisation. Coming together at a unified research group, using the the same measurements. My grandfather was involved in standardising lab glassware. Standardisation becomes more valuable the more people buy into it. Three people using the same system achieves little. 3 million people all using the same thing become empowered.

Human trafficking. Criminals are making the money. It felt like it was good to touch an important, serious issue that doesn’t get talked about much in the media. I heard stuff about it. Then I made the gif and when I was looking for the Lego faces to show how the people felt, I started to really think about how it must feel for them.

MoCC has been invited to inhabit the Pavilion Gallery at the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG) this 24-27 August bank holiday. It’s a bit of a different ambience to the former hairdressers we occupied in Exeter last May. But since a commodity is a commodity anywhere you offer it, our range of interactive activities will be just as at home there.

Commodities involved: The Instagram value of my cats – how much they’re worth in terms of likes. I know that Jack is worth more than Maisy. He gets more likes.
I’m profiting because I’m receiving likes. Instagram because I’m desperate for their platform so I’m generating money for them. I chose this moment think because I do this quite often and it’s an amusing thing. It’s more of a confession in a way.

The cops are arresting people, another guy “Mr Smooth” is bribing the cops. It’s happening around the world. Doing this broadened what I think about in terms of trade and exchange. What is a commodity. Is there anything that can’t be traded?
